Service by Mail

We welcome the opportunity to extend our Analog Store family beyond the Triangle area of North Carolina. Please call from anywhere with your questions about high end audio gear. We offer simple advice free of charge. We offer design and consulting services for an hourly fee. We welcome repair orders from anywhere in the world. We are glad to offer our Out of Town customers access to our complete line of new and used merchandise (pending manufacturer's territorial stipulations.)

When requesting repair service from out of town, contact The Analog Store to speak with Alex Lok before sending your equipment to us. He will be able to summarize your needs and offer the best advice on how you should proceed. He can order parts and repair documents while your equipment is in transit.

When your component arrives, you will be notified of its safe status, and you will provide your payment information to pay for the first half hour of labor (or $45.00) to determine a firm estimate. Should your equipment require more thorough examination and diagnosis (very rare), then you will be charged a maximum of 1 hour, or $90.00 for the estimate. Your equipment will be diagnosed in a timely and efficient manner, and you will be contacted with a recommendation on how to proceed. You will receive an estimated cost of repair including parts and tax, if applicable. If during the repair the cost is found to exceed your estimate, you will be contacted before work continues. We wish to work closely with you to deliver the highest possible value through our repair services and to avoid unnecessary surprises.

With your permission, work will begin and your equipment will be repaired to new or better specifications. If you should choose not to proceed with the repair, you will be charged $45.00 (1/2 hour) estimate fee, plus return shipping. When repairs are complete, you will be notified so that you can authorize final payment, and discuss return shipping details. Your equipment will be securely packaged for safe return to you, with insurance purchased for the fair value in case of loss or damage to the shipment. The package will be trackable and will require an adult signature for delivery unless otherwise requested.

While at The Analog Store, your equipment is always stored in our alarm and fire protected commercial building.

Suggestions for shipping electronic components safely.

  • Completely wrap and seal your component in a large plastic 'GLAD' brand trash bag with plastic movers tape.

  • Use a dessicant such as Damp Rid Freshener Pack, if possible. Put one packet inside the plastic bag with your component. Tape its edges to a flat side of the component so that it will not roam free and possibly break open. Damp Rid packs are available here.

  • Wrap the sealed, moisture protected component in several layers of large bubble wrap. Wrap in 3 dimensions, around the front/back, side/side, and around the side walls. Use your imagination to picture a gorilla trying to break your precious toy but not smart enough to open it first.

  • Pack this tightly in a sturdy box. This is your most important layer of protection. If something gets through this layer, your equipment is in jeopardy. Label this box with To: and From: addresses as if it were being mailed. This is your second chance in case the outer box is somehow "lost" or destroyed.

  • Wrap the inner box in more bubble wrap or polyethylene foam (the tough stuff) and load this into another, larger box, filling the void with foam peanuts, preferrably polyethylene foam, not styrofoam or biodegradable wimpy stuff. Pack the peanuts in firmly, but not to bulge the box too much. If the box is bulging from peanuts you may want to consider a thicker cardboard box.

The bubble wrap and foam peanuts should be tight in order to provide protection from shock. Looseness of packing materials will reduce shock absorption and deliver more shock to your component. Shipping services are like the weather in the open ocean. You never know how it will be until you get there, and it has the power to destroy any manmade structure no matter how strong. Be prepared and be safe.

U-Haul sells very heavy duty packing boxes locally, as do various other moving companies. U-Line is a commercial shipping supply company that sells everything you need to ship an antique china tea set from Antartica. Request their catalog or see their website.

Please submit our online Service Request orm when you are ready to ship.
