Quad Electroacoustics has one of
the best reputations for quality and performance in the audio industry. In the late 1950s,
the company's visionary founder, Peter Walker, invented a totally new type of speaker.
Called the Quad Electrostatic loudspeaker (ESL), it immediately revolutionized the audio
industry by setting a new standard for accurate audio reproduction. To this day, many
industry experts regard the Quad electrostatic speakers as the best available. Modern
designs of traditional dynamic loudspeakers from other manufacturers are frequently
compared directly to the 40 year old and current versions of Peter Walkers ESL speakers.
To many, It is the gold standard for accuracy.
Four models of Quad ESL
speakers are offered today. The ESL-988 is virtually an exact copy of the original ESL-63
designed and optimized by Mr. Walker himself. It is updated in materials and build quality
so that it will stand up to everyday use better than the older models. The ESL-989 is
larger and has a better response in the low frequency range. It is truly a full range
loudspeaker with the classic sound and precise accuracy of the Quad ESL design.
2005 saw the announcement of two new Quad electrostatic speakers. The ESL-2805 is the smaller and the ESL-2905 is the larger full range version. Some say these new models are destined to replace the ESL-988 and ESL-989, but at least for now all four are available at The Analog Store. Download the brochure for the new models here.
In addition to the famous electrostatic transducers, Quad makes some of the best dynamic or traditional cone speakers. Called the L-series, these are ideal for home theater use as well as stereo and surround music listening. Download the L-series brochure here.
Quad Electroacoustics also manufactures some of the finest electronics available. Tube and Solid State amplifiers, and CD players consistently win awards to this day, even though many Quad electronic components have been in production for 50 years! The sound, quality of construction, attractive appearance, and value will amaze you!
